01. Our History
Maria Conceicao, our founder, began developing and managing humanitarian projects in 2005. While working for an international airline, a stopover in Bangladesh exposed her to the realities of extreme poverty. What struck her most was not only the hardship, but the untapped potential of the people she met.
Maria quickly recognised that short-term aid would not lead to lasting change. Working within the constraints common to developing contexts, she focused instead on building stable, sustainable initiatives that could grow over time.
In 2011, she founded the Maria Cristina Foundation in the United Kingdom in memory of her late adoptive mother, Cristina. The foundation was created to deliver long-term impact through education, community development, and practical support.
Since then, the foundation has launched and supported projects that produce tangible results. These initiatives improve lives today while laying the groundwork for independence, dignity, and opportunity for future generations.
02. Our Vision
To break the cycle of poverty by providing high-quality education and sustained support, so that children from disadvantaged communities can realise their potential and participate fully in an increasingly global world.
